The FIFA Women’s World Cup is in full swing and we can’t think of a more perfect hybrid of an American-Argentine activity than throwing your heart into cheering for the United States in soccer (or, sorry, fútbol). Apparently The American Club agreed, and so is hosting a viewing party for the U.S. game against France this Friday, June 28, at 4 PM.
All ex-pats and super fans are welcome to come cheer for their team – and stick around until 5:30 PM when the Buenos Aires International Newcomers (BAIN) group is co-hosting a last-Friday-of-the-month after-hours cocktail mixer.
To advance to this quarterfinal round, the U.S. team defeated Spain by 2-1 and France defeated Brazil by the same score. Whichever team wins this round will go on to the semifinals to face either Norway or England, whose match occurs on Thursday, June 27. Although The American Club has not yet confirmed they will host a viewing of the semifinal game on Tuesday, June 2, they stated it is highly likely.
With rating for women’s soccer at an all-time high, Friday’s U.S.-France game is sure to attract the rapt attention of fans across the globe… and hopefully here in Buenos Aires, as well. Four years ago, the U.S. Women’s World Cup final game (U.S. vs. Japan) had more viewers in the U.S. than the Men’s World Cup final. As for France, their women’s national team sold out all 48,000 seats at Parc de Princes stadium in Paris.
The American Club should serve as the perfect venue for the viewing and even more perfect for finishing off your week. From their striking aerial views of the city to admire during commercial breaks, to their exquisite cocktail bar to toast the U.S.’ (*fingers crossed*) victory.
The American Club is located at Viamonte 1133, Piso 10 in front of the Teatro Colón.
