What To Do In Buenos Aires This Weekend: Christmas Edition

By | [email protected] | December 22, 2016 1:17pm

Even though everyone is officially on vacation, you’ve still got options if you need to escape the clutches of an overbearing family or pass off the responsibility of your own holiday entertainment. If you just need a little Christmas tree magic, don’t forget to stop by the Galerías Pacífico to surround yourself with some final retail therapy and the most decadent trimmings ever. Speaking of decadence, here’s a lineup of lavish holiday dinner options, in case you can’t stomach the idea of another year of your grandma’s lukewarm Vithel Toné. Here at The Bubble, we just want to wish you a weekend that is full of food and the best folks you know, so here are a few events to expand your activity options.

Friday, December 23rd

There’s something undeniably comforting about French style jazz, and Blú et Les Garçons knows that the holiday season is powerless without a little extra comfort. Pretend like you’re in an underground bar in Paris, and head on over to the Conventillo Cultural Abasto for a pre nochebuena concert with the chic quartet. Front woman Blú’s unique sound delivers just the right amount of swing for a next-level experience, and you can preview the band’s stylings here. Tickets are AR $150 for your jazzy soirée, and you can get them at the door.

Conventillo Cultural Abasto | Dr. Tomás Manuel de Anchorena 575 | 9:00 PM

Cumbiarap? You bet. Spend your Friday night with one of the leading ladies in the Argentine rap scene, Sara Hebe. She’ll be dishing out her best poetry alongside sound producing pal, Ramiro Jota, at the Niceto Club for their last big event before Santa’s arrival. Back from a successful tour in Europe, Hebe is getting getting some serious attention back home for her latest hit, Pucha. Show your support for women killing it in male-dominated industries, and make sure you get your discounted AR $120 tickets in advance here.

Niceto Club | Niceto Vega 5510 | 8:00 PM – 1:00 AM

Like usual, La Usina’s got a fabulous option for your listening pleasure. Argentine singer-songwriter, Axel, is gifting us all with an intimate concert at the La Boca staple. If you’re unfamiliar, the megastar has been the object of many-a celebrity crush since the late 1990s, and has six ultra successful albums under his belt. Over two hundred million people can’t all be wrong (scratch that: aren’t usually wrong), so make sure you pick up your ticket starting at noon. Your ticket price? A toy to donate to the Institución Educativa del Distrito de las Artes, so the Usina can spread a little extra holiday cheer.

La Usina del Arte | Caffarena 1 | 9:00 PM

Kick off the festivities with an all-nighter at the Teatro Flores. The Fiesta Ricotera is providing your license to let loose with your friends, and probably a whole bunch of strangers at the hands of SuperLógico. The rockers will get the evening off to an explosive start, and Flores’s signature DJs will keep you dancing until it’s time to stumble home and start cooking Christmas dinner. Tickets will only run you AR $100 as long as you get them in advance here.

Teatro Flores | Av. Rivadavia 7806 | 11:59 AM – 6:30 AM

Saturday, December 24th

Today is your last chance to experience the magic at the Parque Navideño de la Ciudad. The insanely festive carnival has taken over the Parque Thays, and has got live performances, pictures with Santa, games, prizes, and a real toy workshop, so you can watch the elves do their noble work. Your ticket to the North Pole is totally free, so round up the kids (or your youthful spirit) and get your final dose of city-funded cheer before the big event.

Parque Thays | Av. del Libertador and Dr. Carlos Vaz Ferreira | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

If you aren’t lucky enough to have mom making you all of your favorite holiday treats for dinner, the Hard Rock Café has got your back. They’ll provide the grub and the rockin’ atmosphere so that your Christmas Eve is as hardcore as possible. Bring a little attitude and an empty stomach for their signature upscale bar food and memorabilia. The only way to get information about how much the foodfest will cost and to get your name on the list, is by sending a message via the Facebook event, so make sure you do so asap.

Hard Rock Café |  Av. Pueyrredón and Av. Libertador | 8:00 PM

(Technically) Sunday, December 25th

la viruta

La Viruta is a guaranteed good time, and once midnight has come and gone, and all of the champagne toasts have been made, sneak out to the tango hub to extend the merriment. Bring your dancing shoes for the jolliest práctica of the year, and dive into Christmas in the close embrace of a total stranger. Your ticket in will run you AR $120, and you can call 5263 0964 to reserve your table.

La Viruta | Armenia 1366 | 1:00 AM – 6:00 AM

Matienzo has got another post brindis option so that you can celebrate Santa’s arrival until the wee hours of the night. Their Abrazo Cumbiero de Navidad party is bringing Dalmiro y los de Nieve to the main stage for a live cumbia experience. DJ Lince will continue to dish out the Christmas jams, so you can start to work off any holiday indulgences. Tickets for your extra dose of merriment will cost you AR $90, and you can get yours in advance here.

Club Cultural Matienzo | Pringles 1249 | 12:30 AM – 6:00 AM

Happy weekend y’all!
