What To Do In Buenos Aires This Weekend: April 15 Edition

By | [email protected] | April 15, 2016 2:01pm

There is always so much going on in the city, but this weekend is especially generous. As well as BAFICI, BA Food Week, the city’s unmissable exhibitions (Jeff Koons’ Seated Ballerina just rocked up at the MALBA) and all the usual weekend ferias, here is your checklist for the finde. Ojalá the forecast is wrong. Otherwise we’re all screwed.

Friday 15th

WINE: Tinto, cheese & music. Por favooooooor. From 6PM to 11PM try out the best Malbecs in Lo de Joaquín Alberdi (Jorge Luis Borges 1772) for what is described — free of bias — in the Facebook event as THE party in Palermo. Spaces are limited so click the link for reservations.

THEATER: Who is down for a 50 minute long performance which takes us on a journey through the life and works of Argentine artist Xul Solar, directed by Osvaldo Tesser? It starts at 7PM and costs AR$30 (on the door), including access to the Xul Solar museum (Laprida 1212), where the performance is taking place.

CHETO FOOD: If you have a spare AR$1100, Chef Masters Experience is on again at Palacio Duhau (Alvear 1661) at 7PM. Beautiful gardens, exquisite wines, banging cocktails, dreamy international chefs feeding you organismic food, live DJs… The whole sha-bang. Citygold clients get 30% off. Make reservations by phoning 5171 1204 or sending an email to [email protected]

ART: Jorge Macchi, who is currently exhibiting his mind blowing Perspectives at the MALBA, is taking over room 27 of the Bellas Artes Museum (Libertador 1473). The inauguration starts at 7PM.

MUSIC: We thought the PM Open Air-style madness was over but it’s never over. Time Warp is in town from Friday to Saturday, which means lots of joda and lots of dilated pupils. It’s at Centro Costa Salguero (Rafael Obligado 1221) and there are still tickets for AR$850. My friends tell me the line

MUSIC: Psychedelic rock slash chillwave Argentine band Te-King (check them out here, we’re in love) are playing at Espacio Cultural Mi Casa (Aguero 787) from midnight followed by a Parodi DJ set. It costs AR$50.

Saturday 16th

FOOD: From 12PM to 5PM, get to La Carbonera (El Salvador 4401) for Venezuelan empanadas, craft beer and more. (Cheese).

FOOD: More empanadas! And patacones (fried plantain)! And tequeños (fried breaded cheese sticks)! At Panachef from 12PM till 9PM. Read more about the guys, here.

TALK: “The Importance of Masters” is a talk that will be held at 6PM at the gorgeous Museo de Artes Plásticas Eduardo Sívori (Infanta Isabel 555) with sculptor Antonio Pujia and psychoanalist Rodolfo Urribarri.

FAIR: Winter is upon us and we capitalists always need an excuse to buy new clothes. But these are second hand so it doesn’t count, right? The third Feria Rooftop in Palermo is on Saturday and Sunday from 12PM to 7PM. The address is kept secret, so message the ladies giving away the bargains via Facebook.

FAIR: If the above is cancelled, you might wanna try this one out instead from 2PM to 6PM. Vintage clothes. You must message these guys to get the address.

MUSIC: Kumbia Queers — a group of badass Argentine lesbians whose fusion of punk and cumbia will surely be catalyzing dance moves on the dance floor — are back at Niceto Club (Niceto Vega 5510) at 8PM. Tickets cost AR$100.

MUSIC: Voy a reír, voy a bailar, vivir mi viiiiida la la la laaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Yep, that guy. Marc Anthony. He’s performing at Tecnopolis (General Paz) at 8PM. Prices vary, the lowest price being AR$600.

MUSIC: Free live Jazz at 9PM at Alcarajo Bar Cultural (Agrelo 4019), anyone?

MUSIC: Chilean singer-songwriter Pascuala Ilabaca and Argentine band Fauna are performing at Club Cultural Matienzo (Pringles 1249) at 9PM. Tickets cost AR$130.

DRINKS: This is a sophisticated excuse to get wasted. This is a bar crawl. Let’s not kid ourselves. French Bar Tour For All kicks off at Vavok Bar (Gorriti 5265) at 10:30PM and wine glass after wine glass you will be led around various bars in the neighborhood for AR$100. Free cheese, games, surprises. Ooh. La. La.

PARTY: Fiesta TUM is on from midnight at Salón Pueyrredón (Santa Fe 4560). You’re in for some lolz and salsa. Plus, the venue is pretty sweet. Tickets cost AR$70.

PARTY: Funk and reggaeton party from midnight with various artists. Everybody.get.down. It costs AR$40 until 1.30AM and then it’s AR$60 on the door.

Sunday 17th

SKATING FAIR: Skate merchandise, clothes, accessories, food, parilla, drinks, music, buena onda, etc. But since it will be cancelled due to rain, don’t get your hopes up. Let me just leave this here. It’s going on here from 11AM to 8.30PM.

PROJECTION: New Yorker Bill Viola is having his works projected at the Club Cultural Matienzo (Pringles 1249) followed by a talk the projections. It’s free!

BEER: From 5PM, make your way to Bierlife (Humberto Primero 670), one of the coolest craft beer bars in San Telmo. They will be presenting their new beers! (And they make all their food with beer. Absolute babes.) Save your space by emailing [email protected]
