BASA is one of the hottest spots to sip and sup in Retiro. Located in a swank subsuelo just steps from Plaza San Martín, it’s a mash-up of sultry, swish bar vibes and a romantic candlelit setting. It is owned by Patricia Scheuer and Luis Morandi, the masterminds behind Gran Bar Danzón, the always-trendy hotspot – which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year! – that everyone still talks about.

The duo is certainly doing something right, as both spots are stand-out watering holes to visit in Buenos Aires. They’re helped by wunderkind bartender (and Pato’s son) Ludovico de Biaggi, who works his magic and produces the picture-perfect tragos that are masterpieces of their own.

To shake things up before winter draws to a close, BASA is hosting a mini-competition among four cocktails created by de Biaggi which you can try, taste, fall in love with, and then choose your favorite. The one with the most votes on social media will win a coveted spot on the permanent menu.

The premium cocktails are available every Thursday through September 6th. They’re priced at AR $200 each, and worth every peso.

In no particular order, we present to you the four delicious drinks you can sample.

The Yellow Submarine

First up, we have the Yellow Submarine, a citrus zingy drink with Hennessy Cognac, aged rum, orange liqueur, lemon and pineapple juices, and simple syrup. This sweet and sour combo does really look like a winner because after all, who doesn’t want to live in a (bucket of?) yellow submarine?

The Cognac Manhattan

Personally, I think everything tastes better in a martini glass, and this cocktail is no exception. The curl of orange peel adds a certain artistic quality, which every fancy drink needs. This drink consists of Hennessy cognac, Argentine Vermut Rosso, Torino-style Vermouth Rosso, and bitters. The ideal choice for when you need a heavy-hitter aperitivo that makes you feel like an official grown-up.

Vive la France!

Pretty in pink vibes very much apply here, as this cocktail tastes as delicious as it looks. Served with a cucumber and mint garnish, this light drink is a perfect after-work delight; it goes down so easily you might end up drinking more than one (or three). This has Hennessy cognac, homemade ginger beer, lime, simple syrup, and cucumber.

Delicious Sour

Our final contestant is a twist on the amaretto sour and is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. The almond flavors of the amaretto marry up beautifully with the orange bitters to give that perfect balance. This includes Hennessy cognac, Amaretto, lime juice, syrup, and orange bitters.

Why don’t you mark your calendar for this coming Thursday and get your drink on? As if tasting delicious cocktails weren’t enough, out of those who make their vote official on the ‘gram, two lucky winners will receive a dinner for two at BASA. So, get ordering, sipping, and voting!
