The main representatives of Cambiemos in the Legislative Branch reached an agreement with the Cabinet Chief’s office regarding an alternative method to implement increases in gas bills. Leader of the Cambiemos caucus in the Lower House and member of the Unión Cívica Radical, Mario Negri, leader of the PRO caucus Nicolás Massot, and the Coalición Cívica’s Juan López – one member representing the three parties that comprise Cambiemos – outlined the new plan to “relieve the impact of gas bills [on users] without emptying the state coffers.”

  1. “Flatten the bills from May/June and July/August [gas bills are paid every two months]: users will be able to postpone the payment of the last increase in three bi-monthly installments. These installments will be paid during the following three bi-monthly bills, when users consume less.”
  2. “The social tariff is ratified, and the limitations that came into effect on January 1, 2017 are suspended. The measure will come into effect on May 1, only for two months, to make room for a campaign aimed at raising awareness about responsible gas consumption.”
  3. “Control of companies and regulating entities. The Ministry of Energy will overview the criteria to implement fines and will request more activity from entities in their relationship with users.”
  4. “Campaign to raise awareness about the need to reduce consumption. All provinces and districts are invited to join.”
  5. “Lastly, the Federal Energetic council will be called so provinces [can] participate in the scheme.”
