One month of blistering heat down, one and a half more to go! Lucky for us, our local bands are mustering up their strength to get out there and distract us all from the oppressive conditions of this slow cooker we call a city with yet another week of shows that are worth sweating on the bus for.
Wednesday January 31
Indie de Miércoles bids farewell to January with a special bonus cut. Concert series curator Seba Rubin will be performing with his four-piece power pop combo Los Andes before heading into the studio to record their debut album. There will also be a live DJ set courtesy of Fernando Blanco (of Valle de Muñecas fame).

Thursday, February 1
Pop chameleon Violeta Castillo and synth pop wunderkind Francisco Villa will help you start February with the right foot by playing a much appreciated free live show at Niceto, where you can escape the unbearable heat wave by giving in to the breezy sounds of pop music.

In his first session of the year, electronic musician Fino Palacios will be playing a live set that layers sounds from house, hip hop, and dub to create intricate sonic landscapes that never get boring.

Friday, February 2
For its 2nd edition, Serenatas brings together the genre-defying queer duo BIFE and singer-songwriter Sofía Viola to celebrate the birds, the bees, and all romance based on active consent, because THAT’S WHAT’S UP.

Indiefuertes is back, like every week, bringing together the most exciting sounds from the current Buenos Aires independent music scene. On this occasion, post-punk band Pyramides, psychedelic indie rock band Césped, and minimalistic indie pop songwriter Srta. Trueno Negro will all be playing live at the well-established concert series in what just might be one of the strongest shows of the weekend.

For its second edition, Intone II, a concert series that calls for musical revolution through sound, brings together a couple of like-minded experimental artists that are more than comfortable pushing a sonic envelope or two. Experimental electronic artists BK, Black Pope Francis/King Shinobi, MONGA, and MDML vs Imaginacion will all be doing their thang, with The Bristol Experience DJing between sets.

It’s ladies night at Espacio Cultural Mi Casa, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Synth-pop duo Ninja, lo-fi bedroom pop act Rosalba Menna, and minimalist pop act Testarosa will be playing live at the loveliest garage-turned-venue in town. *Side note: all three were our new favorites this week, so you’re going to want to check this one out.

Saturday, February 3rd
Electronic music duo Ibeyi is performing for the first time ever in Argentina, courtesy of Red Bull Music Academy. The Cuban-French duo will be playing and singing soulful tunes that draw inspiration from both cultures while eschewing traditional genres.

Él mató a un policía motorizado is playing a live show at Parador Konex but don’t get too excited folks, because it’s already sold out. If you’re lucky, you might find someone selling an extra ticket or you could honestly wait until their next show, since they play ALL THE TIME EVERYWHERE.

Witches is back, with more darkly mesmerizing beats than ever. This time around, DIY artist Ex mujer (Fungi), experimental electronic artist Shis Unusual, minimalist electronic act Emir B, and EDM duo Lngchps (abyss) will all be playing live sets at Niceto Lado B so you can channel your inner pagan and dance the night away.

Zizek goes back to Niceto’s dancefloor with a summer party including well-established artists from their roster and some new talents as well, including electronic musician/producer Uji, cumbiatronic combo King Coya & Queen Cholas, digital cumbia project El Remolon, and ZZK founder and mashup mastermind Villa Diamante.

Sunday, February 4th
There’s nothing like an eclectic park show on a balmy Sunday afternoon, and this event is sure to deliver. This sunday’s lineup includes: indie punk band Los Traumas, shoegazey singer-songwriter Luis Baumann, hardcore band Tomografía Bonaerense, acoustic folk singer Christian Vaca, the rock trio Madre, Gonxalo Verde (of spacerock band Verde y los Caballos del Marte) and jazz quartet Tundra. Grab a mate (friend) and a mate (beverage) and enjoy.
