We all knew it was coming, but the moment has now finally arrived. Starting at midnight tonight, taking a taxi in the City of Buenos Aires will be 15 percent more expensive. Best not splash out on those extra fries.
The reason? More money is needed to cover operational costs, said the Taxi Workers Union. This will mark the second time in the year that taxi fares increase in the City after the 20 percent rise that took place in late February.
The starting fare for a daytime trip will rise from AR$20.20 to AR$23.20 and increase in increments of AR$2.32. At night, the fare will go from AR$24.20 to AR$27.80 and increase in increments of AR$2.78.
Since 2008 taxi fares have increased 600 percent.
