Ronaldo v. Messi Debate Allegedly Leads To Murder In Mumbai

We’ve all gotten involved in debates that got a little out of hand and culminated in a rude remark, a thrown book, cold-blooded murder… wait, what?

According to police reports, while in the throes of a debate on the merits of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, 34-year-old Obinna Michael Durumchukwa threw a glass at 22-year-old Nwabu Chukwuma, who then picked up a shard of the shattered glass and slashed Durumchukwa’s throat. The pair, both Nigerian, had been out celebrating Durumchukwa’s birthday the night before the incident.

The alleged incident took place in Mumbai, India yesterday morning. Local police forces have responded by saying they’re investigating the murder and hope to find out whether it was the result of “a minor argument.”

It’s all a little strange, because every Nigerian I’ve ever met tells me Jay-Jay Okocha (so good they named him twice) was the greatest player they’d seen.

And talk about the cops playing down the greatest debate of them all, up there with evolution v. creationism and crunchy v. smooth peanut butter. With four Ballons d’Or to his name compared to Cristiano’s measly two, Messi has a more objective measure by which to verify the claim he’s the greatest, but let’s be real here – let’s not go round slashing each other up over it, please.
