While most people will probably be watching President Mauricio Macri’s State of the Nation address today from the comfort of their homes or workplaces, some will be taking to the streets to voice their support or opposition to it. What’s a major political event without a good protest, right?
Macri’s trip from the Casa Rosada to Congress will feature at least two protests organized by workers of the National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI) and the Bankers Association.
INADI has been protesting since 8:30 AM around their headquarters located on Avenidad de Mayo 1401 for the more than 60 workers who were fired last Friday via email. The Bankers Association will be marching to Congress with a list of demands that includes rehiring fired workers, salary increases, eliminating taxes on earnings among other demands.
Not to be overshadowed, Macri’s Cambiemos party has taken to social media to ask Argentines to come together at the Plaza del Congreso and use the slogan “Vamos Juntos” (Let’s do this together) to show support for Macri’s speech. There will even be a big screen in front of Congress for anyone who wants to watch the speech while standing outdoors.
Expect more protests throughout the day and stay tuned.
