Protest Planned In Front Of Russian Embassy In Buenos Aires In Light Of ‘Gay Concentration Camps’ In Chechnya

This Friday there will be an event outside the Russian Embassy in Buenos Aires in protest of the ongoing oppression of gay men in Chechnya. In recent weeks, reports have surfaced that over 100 men have been rounded up into camps in Chechnya, where they have allegedly been tortured and at least four are said to have been killed. Russian sources have repeatedly denied these allegations. A spokesperson for Head of Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov has said that “If there were such people in Chechnya, law enforcement agencies wouldn’t need to have anything to do with them because their relatives would send them somewhere from which there is no returning.”

In the face of these horrendous allegations, Casa Brandon, a queer cultural center based in Villa Crespo, has organised a protest outside the Russian Embassy in Recoleta. This follows a protest outside the Russian Embassy in London, as well as other locations including Dublin and Amsterdam. The Buenos Aires protest will take place this Friday 28th May starting from 5pm.
