Looking for something to do with your Thursday night that doesn’t involve binging on IP blocked netflix?
The MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires) is about to kick 2015 off with 3 new expositions, starting March 19th.
The world class museum is not only presenting the work of some seriously engaging artists like Diego Bianchi, Annemarie Heinrich, Judi Werthein and Osías Yanov, but is also using the kick-off as a platform to introduce Agustín Pérez Rubio as the new artistic director of the museum.
First up on the agenda is “Experiencia Infinita”, a “living exposition” that will include will eight very well known actors exploring the concept of a living museum. Their performance raises questions about the relationship between time and choreography. The show invites the audience to think about life and its relationship to art in the 21st century. The exhibition will be up until June 8th.
The second exhibit, “Annemarie Heinrich Intenciones secretas”, is a collection of 90 of the prolific photographer’s best photos. The collection explores the effect earlier influences like proto-feminism had on Heinrich’s work. The artist is known for being a pioneering force in photographing the female nude. “Annemarie Heinrich Intenciones secretas” centers around a personal collection of the artist’s vintage photos that takes onlookers through her journey as pioneer, artist, and a woman working to put photography on par with other mediums of art. The photographs will be on display from the 6th of March until July 6th.
The last exhibition by Osías Yanov, called “VI Sesión en el Parlamento”, situates his body of work as the continuation of his investigation in the action of language, the potential of sculpture and it’s relationship with the human body. Additionally, the connection between a person and different sculptural elements as a metaphor is explored by looking at how individuum can generate change. To achieve this, Yanov uses actors who become are part of the display through performances. The exposition will be held from the 19th of March until the 8th of June.
Big words aside, MALBA is providing the public with an incredible way to engage with some interesting ideas and beautiful art, but can double as great selfie backdrop so no need to worry plebeians.
