Día del Amigo is finally almost upon us and you all know what that means. It’s time to ditch your significant other (yes, even you “my boyfriend is my best friend” people – gross, by the way), parents, children, and co-workers, and devote the day to the people in your life who will be there for you ’cause you’re there for them, too. The only people who would let you move in with them on a day’s notice when you run out on your wedding because your fiancee looks too much like Mr. Potato Head, and definitely the only people you’d forgive even after they leave your infant on a public bus. In short, the family you choose – your friends.

Now, I don’t know about you, but one activity my friends like to do a lot is eat – a lot. We also like to save money and get the best deals possible. The Bubble‘s here to blend both of those activities seamlessly into one with our top picks for the food deals being offered around Buenos Aires for Friend’s Day – and a bonus non-food track as well. Whether you’re in the mood for fancy French pastries or fried finger food, we’re sure you’ll find something to your and your amigos’ liking.

Cake Tasting

Roll up to the Belgrano pastelería ready to perform the role we’ve all been dying to play – Mary Berry on The Great British Bake Off. You may not look the part – we can’t all have Mary’s steel-grey glare or aristocratic British accent – but you can certainly act the part at this honest-to-goodness cake tasting happening at French bakery, Mada Patisserie. For Friends Day, head pastry chef Juliana Herrera Dappe has whipped up some of her finest. For AR $850, you and your friends can indulge in a box of 20 mini-cakes of five varieties, choosing from the following: apple crumble, red berry cheesecake, brownie-cake, lemon pie, white chocolate and passion fruit tart, among many others.

You and your friends in the mood for spring rolls, shumai, or pho? Green Bamboo – the classic Vietnamese restaurant that’s been around for more than 20 years – challenges you to a deal: just say the phrase chúc mừng bạn (which means “congratulations, friend” in Vietnamese) and get a round of drinks on the house to go along with your delicious, flavorful food. Sound too good to be true? We recommend you head over to Green Bamboo in Palermo Hollywood and see for yourself. In addition to a highly ‘grammable space, this chic eatery offers some of the best curry in town.

Peruvian Seafood Bonanza

There’s nothing that binds friends together quite like a bit of liquid courage, social lubricant, or whatever the cool kids are calling it these days. Puerta del Inca is definitely betting on the allure of alcohol for friends of all kinds with their amazing deal for Día del Amigo. After purchasing one bottle of champagne from the Chandon winery, get a second 750cc Chandon bottle (of any kind) free of charge! Doesn’t get much better than that. Head over to San Telmo for all your Peruvian favorites. Chef Luis Hizo Martínez has prepared a shrimp and red pepper cream soup, sea bass ceviche, and seafood extravaganzas for the entrees (think octopus, squid, shrimp, mussels, and much more).

Puerta del Inca | Bolívar 373 | Tel: 5217 5323 | Mondays – Thursdays, 12 PM – 12 AM; Fridays – Saturdays, 12 PM – 1 AM | Instagram | Facebook

Get Your Hummus On

There’s no comfort food quite as comforting as a bowl of hummus. Maybe that’s just me. If like me, you and your friends want to celebrate over some Mediterranean staples we recommend checking out Fayer, the hip modern Israeli joint in the Arcos district of Palermo. For the special occasion, Chef Mariano Muñoz is offering an appetizer sampling ideal for two or three people (including hummus, babaganoush, muhamara, fried cauliflower with tahina sauce, and kebabs) for the reasonable price of AR $1,400, along with two Stella Artois beers for the price of one. The restaurant also offers its usual menu that uses the freshest ingredients to craft creative dishes that fuse Mediterranean and Argentine traditional cuisines.

Yeah, yeah, we know, your friends love to talk about all the healthy food they’re eating, how they go to the gym every day, and how really, they’ve discovered, celery actually isn’t that bad. The mark of a *best* friendship though is knowing when to cut the bulls*it and say “Tonight, we’re pigging out.” We couldn’t think of a better option for just that kind of night than Chicken Bros, our go-to for everything fried like only American food can be. For their Friends Day promo, the Palermo Soho joint is offering up fried chicken tenders, mac & cheese, fried chicken sandwiches, and much more. The best part though? In a group of three or more, after you and your friends order a main dish, you’ll get free fried Oreos. Need I say more?

BONUS TRACK: Cocktail Adventure

Your friends may be adventurous but they’re also tired after a long week, so planning your own roam-around-different-bars night out seems more like work than like fun. Airbnb Experiences, luckily, has the perfect solution. Available in both English and Spanish, a local guide will take you and your friends around the hidden and forgotten bars of Palermo, sampling one signature cocktail at each and hearing from the bartender about its creation and history. A total of three hours, the experience includes three drinks. Wear your walking shoes and your fave bar-night outfit, and we’re sure you’ll have the time of your life.

Saturday, July 20, 8 PM – 11 PM | Palermo Soho (Arrange meeting location) | AR $1,950/person | Web
