Thank God it wasn’t on Cadena Nacional!

Today President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner headed over to the Retiro train station to announce the enactment of the new railroad nationalization law. However, whatever it was that she was about to say was overshadowed by something else as many watching their television suddenly realized that her shirt had suffered a so-called “wardrobe malfunction” that seemed to expose some awkward cleavage.

Yay, new bill! Oh, and that.

Twitter, the internet’s social thermometer, reacted accordingly. (That means, with a lot of snark).

If you care about what she said, her full speech is below, but in short, she strongly supported Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and praised Interior and Transportation Minister Florencio Randazzo, who is looking to run for president.

  • “Argentines save (money) and buy (stuff). You know why? Because Axel took control of the Economy Ministry. Not of the economy, I’m still handling that one. He’s my right hand man, my best advisor and assistant, but when it comes to the economy, decisions are always political and it’s up to the president to make them”.
  • Then Cristina criticized pretty much everyone in politics (a scolding that clearly involved people in her party as well). “I want to hear men and women from my party – and every other party – to talk about these things (such as the economy), not see them doing silly things or pantomimes, I need all of you to produce ideas”. It wasn’t clear what exactly she was talking about, but chances are she was referring to what happened last week, when the three major presidencial candidates, Daniel Scioli, Mauricio Macri and Sergio Massa appeared on Marcelo Tinelli’s show, the local version of Dancing with the Stars.
