Forty-eight days after undergoing brain surgery, today marks the return of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to the insane world of politics. Don’t get excited though, because she may be resuming her activities but we still don’t know when she will reappear in public.
Remember: she is still fragile. And her doctors have said that her recovery will be progressive. This means that most of her activities will take place in the Olivos presidential residence instead of the Casa Rosada (at least for the next few weeks) and that she will be avoiding a busy schedule in order to keep stress levels low. She is not even allowed to fly, for which in many ceremonies and political rallies around the country it will still be up for Vice-President Amado Boudou to replace her. It is also the reason why she will not be able to work from to the Casa Rosada, since she uses the presidential chopper to fly between both locations everyday.
According to the Government, Cristina is scheduled to meet today with the Presidency’s secretary general Oscar Parrilli, Vice-President Amado Boudou and Cabinet Chief Juan Manuel Abal Medina.
Speculation now grows as to when it is that she will decide to return to the public scene. Early this morning some were suggesting she would choose to reappear on December 10, when Argentina’s democracy turns 30 years old and the planet celebrates International Human Rights Day.
One thing is certain: her welcome back party will be epic, it will be grandiose and will be the most emotional thing you’ve seen since Bambi’s mother died.
