Man, it’s been a rough year for President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. In addition to spending this year getting in and out of emergency rooms, she has now broken her left ankle while resting in her Río Gallegos home, in Santa Cruz, with her family.

The President was planning to return to Buenos Aires on Monday, but after breaking her ankle yesterday, she was flown to Buenos Aires last night and taken to the Otamendi Clinic, in Recoleta, for treatment. According to the latest official press statement, she is now “resting” at the Olivos presidential residence

The presidential medical team stated that the President “slipped” in her home in Río Gallegos,  which resulted in her breaking her left ankle.

According to local news sites, the President was initially taken to the Río Gallegos Regional Hospital, but after learning that the MRI was out of order, her doctors decided to fly her back to Buenos Aires for a speedy treatment.

Cristina was planning to return to Buenos Aires on Monday, when the Senate will be holding a special session to debate the Parlasur lawmakers’ election bill.

The President already had an ankle problem last March when she showed up like this before a meeting with the Pope at the Vatican.
