Chances are you’re not one of the 700 staffers or 60 public officials who dines at the Casa Rosada every day for lunch. But if you are, you might have been a little concerned to watch the price of your lunch hit the AR $50 mark yesterday when you’d been spending a mere AR $ 3 (AR $3!) in December.
But if this 1,500 percent increase, as reported by Ámbito, dangerously raises your blood pressure, at least take comfort in the fact that the additional proceeds are going to Chef Dante Liporace’s quest to make your more healthy. The nutritionist was hired as part of the fight against obesity and has reportedly made facilities cleaner, extended kitchen hours and even added food goods so employees are now free to snack on cake even during the afternoon hours. That is, if they are willing to pay for it.
Public officials: they’re just like us! They struggle to find cheap lunch spots too.
According to press reports, the price increases have apparently convinced many to start bringing their own grub from home. (At least the lunch box industry must be doing ok in these hard economic times: who wants to bet on which member of Macri’s administration brings a Power Rangers lunch box with them to work?)
However, the reality is that those locked up in Casa Rosada are probably still better off than the majority of the population grabbing lunch.
President Mauricio Macri’s administration has not been shy about recognizing the consequences that inflation has had on people’s livelihoods.
