Several of Argentina’s Olympic stars came together to make a video illustrating the difficulties rowers face while training in the highly polluted Reconquista River in Buenos Aires province, in a kind of hygiene-challenged reenactment of this summer’s past Olympics. The video features athletes navigating piles of trash while playing tennis, cycling, or Judo-ing.

It’s part of a campaign called “Clean Up The Reconquista” launched by Olympian rowers Ariel Suarez and Maria Laura Abalo who called widely on journalists and athletes to unite in illustrating the poor conditions that rowers have to train under in Argentina, while also highlighting the need to resolve the serious contamination issues that challenge the Río Reconquista in Buenos Aires province.

“If you fall in, you get sick,” said another rower, highlighting the added danger now challenging the sport of rowing for these Argentine athletes.
