We all know the US is not a land of football — the fact that it insists on calling it soccer is key evidence of that — but hey, it’s really been trying lately. And sometimes failing. Like yesterday, when USA Today, in its infinite football savvy, mentioned a certain “Leonardo Messi” in a headline and tweet.

Leonardo who? Oh right, they meant Lionel, as in our very own Leo Messi.

So they failed to properly address one of the greatest football players of all time but hey, A for effort?

As we all know, you can’t be Messi(ng) up like that and think you’ll get away with it. Although the headline has since been corrected, social media couldn’t let this slide without a good meme, or rather, an explosion of memes.
