What will we drink now?

Brace yourself world because Argentines are arming up in anger against an unfathomable insult made towards their most beloved drink: Fernet.

In a recent article, the website “Marketwatch” had the audacity to say that “Fernet-Branca tastes like mint-flavored shoe polish.” They didn’t stop there. They continued on to say that it was one of the most “undrinkable” beverages in the world.

Argentine Twitter users were quick to fight back on the heinous affront to their treasured drink of choice. One directed their words to the website saying: “Millions of bottles are sold each year shows that no. Keep consuming your syrup and marshmallows.”

Jokes and insults aside. Fernet is actually a pretty big deal, not just Argentina, but around the world. It is the second most popular herbal liquor in the world. Fratelli Branca’s ‘Fernet Branca’ has sold around 5.27 million cases in just last year alone, mostly in Latin America but it has been growing its market further into the U.S., Europe and Australia.

So one can clearly see why Argentine were furious when their fernet was insulted. Some Twitter users advocate banning the website from Argentina. Others said they deserve Trump if they don’t like Fernet with Coke. And others simply said they were mixing the drink wrong.

Lesson of the day? Don’t mess with Argentina or their favorite drink of choice.
