A Youtube video showing a mysterious, disc-shaped object in the background of a Buenos Aires newscast has sparked a fierce debate between normals and nutjobs on the internet.
The footage shows three anchors getting on unassumingly with their show whilst the alleged UFO can be seen speeding across the BA cityscape in the backdrop.
The bizarre scenes first aired on Feb. 28 before being uploaded to Youtube the following day.
Ben Hansen, former lead investigator on the SyFy channel’s “Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files” and all-round killjoy, has pointed out a few discrepancies which suggest the footage is faked rather than fact. Just as well that we have an official investigator or we might have actually believed a giant disc flew across Buenos Aires without anyone noticing it/reacting to it in any way.
“I’m not completely convinced that the UFO was part of the original news broadcast, partly because this isn’t the first time that I’ve seen an anomaly allegedly captured behind the cameras of an Argentinian news team”, Hansen began, in an email to the Huffington Post.
“My team went to Santa Cruz, Argentina, in 2011 to confront a news cameraman who finally admitted to using animation software to fake an alien creature walking in the background of an interview. In that case, the news station employee was responsible for adding the hoax to the video segment which eventually aired on their news broadcast”.
He added that if the UFO had appeared when the footage originally aired on Todo Noticias, the channel would likely have released a statement for extra publicity. As of yet, no comment has been made.
According to Hansen, all this, and more, points to the use of video-editing software.
“I maintain this was most likely an animation hoax because of some common editing errors that appear to be present”, he said. “If you pause the video right at the 33-second mark (see below), you’ll see that the UFO is superimposed right on top of what appears to be guy-wires which anchor an antenna mast.”
“The problem here is that the UFO has just finished passing behind the antenna. While not impossible to squeeze through, the space between the antenna and its guy-wires is presumably very narrow. The image of the building is fairly clear where the antenna is anchored and I’d expect the UFO image to be less degraded if it were situated in the same visual plane”, Hansen explained.
So there you have it; you can sleep easy tonight knowing BA isn’t under extra-terrestrial attack, and that some people have far too much time on their hands.
