It’s easy to write off fireworks, bridge holidays and the like as just being petty distractions from our corporate overlords and the politicians bowing to their private interests these days. If the news has you fighting off more than your fair share of existential dread, then use this first week of July to fight back with a hefty dose of live music – the perfect cure for rainy days, political defeatism, and that strange itch for patriotic traditions that we all may be better off without.
Wednesday | July 5
Lo-fi indie bedroom act Tani (think of a local Frankie Cosmos) joins forces with electronic music composer Candelaria Zamar and the eclectic pop weirdness of Chilean-born musician TROSTRIGO for a free terrace show in the newest edition of Radar Música. This cycle brings together new bands in the indie scene with iconic, already-established musicians for what just might be the solution to your Wednesday blues.
6 PM | FREE | Centro Cultural Recoleta | Junin 1930
Thursday | July 6
Ciclo ‘Los reflejos’ kick off their 5th edition with garage rockers Dedés, Rodrigo Armando – whose name might remind you of a romantic crooner but turns out his sound is closer to Grandaddy than anything else, and punk rock duo Esquizofrénicos. Record label Sin Tierra Discos will also be selling their 100% artisanal DIY cassette catalog, for all the nostalgic analog freaks out there.
JAEBA celebrates its 15th edition with live bands, visual art and dance performances, and much more. There will also be stands from independent, art-related entrepreneurs and you’ll be able to purchase artsy goodies directly from the artists showing their work. Gracing the evening with their music will be experimental duo Secuencxa, acoustic singer/songwriter Tomás Gruosso, groggy groovsters Heinz (lawsuit in 3, 2, 1…), fuzz-laden garage rockers Las Torres, cosmic prog-rock outfit La Experiencia, shoegazers Ison Spectra and, last but not least, lo-fi experimental one-man band Platanopple Córdova.

Tonight, Espacio Cultural Dínamo offers a lineup as diverse as they come – from math rockers Ala Plaza to acoustic bedroom pop act Otoño en Júpiter, experimental rock wizards Ianesqueleto, and funk cover band GG & Sons. You name it. Also, visual artists Vulpix and Descalza camina Solana will be showing their art.

Rollercoaster Vol. 4 Hurricane Heart Attacks – Metadron – Riel
Rollercoaster of love. This time, On Fire Discos treats us with a wide selection of tinnitus-inducing sounds and hard-hitting grooves. In charge of said task will be space rock revivalists Hurricane Heart Attacks, synth-heavy droneheads METADRON, and alt rock duo Riel. Between bands you can chill and let your tympani rest by enjoying DJ sets from both Giunta DJs and The Bristol Soundsystem.
9 PM | $100 | Club Plasma | Piedras 1856
Electro pop-rock outfit Todo El Verano hit the dancefloor of La Roxtar to play songs fresh out of their recently released LP, DANZA. Joining them will be Berazategui’s favorite indie vets, Los Totales, who will also be presenting their latest album, ‘Siempre Estamos’. Judging by the lineup, it sure looks like it’ll be a night full of dance moves and pogo in equal measure.
12 AM |AR $130| The Roxy Live | Niceto Vega 5542
We don’t know much about CoLaBoraTorio, the new concert series with a Myspace 2002 aesthetic, but we do know that Santi Azpiri makes lovely synthpop music with hooks to spare, experimental act Colisionador is intriguing from the first listen, and Tomas Aristimuño is serving up folk music that’s weird in the good way. So yeah, our money’s on this one. See you there.
9 PM | ARS $100 | Roseti | Roseti 722 | Chacarita
Saturday | July 8
Espacio Cultural Mi Casa opens its doors for Ciclo Abismal’s 4th edition, this time with more dream pop, noise, and shoegaze vibes to lose yourself in the joy of the moment and forget the fact that feriados puente aren’t a thing anymore. This edition features LAPTRA’s Cabeza Flotante and their unclassifiable brand of indie rock, along with noise rock duo El Sur, and sci-fi space rockers Medalla Milagrosa.
11:00 PM | AR $80 | Espacio Cultural Mi Casa | Aguero 787
Get ready boys and girls, because it’s time for a baby shower! Well, an album baby, anyway. Self-defined netlabel Sólo le Pido a Dior puts POMO through its paces to celebrate the release of Las Futuras Madres’ first LP, “Hacerse Invisible.” Label mates and electropop bon vivants Hiroshimadandys will be inaugurating the evening, plus Los Inrockuptibles’ Javier Diz will be DJing.
11 PM | POMO, Distrito de Arte | Santa Rosa 5157
We don’t usually write about parties, but as the only R&B and hip hop event in town worth its salt, we figured we could make an exception. Held in a secret location in Abasto, the party features a different artist every month, this time spotlighting Canadian DJ and producer Kaytranada. Resident DJs Trilliam and Lautaro Palenque will be handling turntable duties – so come out and show off those killer dance moves you’ve been secretly rehearsing at work when you think no one’s watching (trust us, they’re watching).
9:30 PM | PM for address | Castro 1119
Sunday | July 9
Dilda, “el domingo feminista” is back, this time with yet another round of lady badasses to make us live (despite the hangover) on a Sunday night. In this week’s edition, you can enjoy the talented singer-songwriter (And backup vocalist of Miss Bolivia) Carolina Pacheco play a live set, plus the comedic stylings of Mana Bugallo, a dj set by Lo Pardo and tattoos courtesy of Victoria Sequera.
