The powers that be have deigned to bless us with a few days of perfect weather and amazing shows, and it seems the directive is clear (celestially aligned as it is): get thee to see more bands. This week we have yet another impressive mix of folk, indie, synthpop prog rock and pop, but mostly pop, and we at the Setlist have to admit — we are totally digging it.

Jueves Santos Nº 3 Betty Blight + Karina Vismara

Start off your week with a sweet dose of lady folk music, courtesy of cumbia singer-turned-English folk revivalist Betty Blight and the always lovely Karina Vismara (basically this generation’s Joni Mitchell). Both bring a unique spin to the genre, and they’re each worth hearing in their own right, so this third edition of “Jueves Santos” is a double treat.

Coiffeur (re)presenta Primer Corte + No es

I told you to get there early last week, and for good reason – the man sold out a half hour after the doors opened. This week Coiffeur presents the second of two extremely intimate, unplugged shows at El Universal, playing songs from his first 2 albums “No Es” and “Primer Corte.” Don’t miss it.

Viernes Indiegentes: Savoir Adore, Violeta Castillo & Gatovideo

From the people who brought you Martes Indiegentes: “Viernes Indiegentes” (groundbreaking). This week they bring in US-based indie pop band Savoir Adore, along with two fantastic local acts: jangly psych-pop wunderkinds Gativideo (playing for their first time in Niceto – break a leg fellas!) and the extremely talented pop songstress Violeta Castillo.

Sweet tip: Send your first and last name to to get a heavily discounted ticket for $100 (normal price is a $300).

Fiesta Cool Ghost #21

The first Cool Ghost party of the year is here, and it’s a good one. Argentina’s answer to Mac DeMarco Pablo Neptuno will be playing, along with proggy instrumental rockband
Lobo de Lava, the slightly shoegazey Rollers, and quirky indie pop act Banana Well. It all goes down at this column’s favorite garage-turned-venue Espacio Cultural Mi Casa.

Las Futuras Madres + El Último Subsuelo + Dedés

Holy cow, Mi Casa is taking no prisoners this week. The much-loved venue has yet another great show on the books for this Saturday, this time with the Yo La Tengo-esque Las Futuras Madres (never a bad thing in my book), electro synthpunk act El Último Subsuelo and the popular pop rock duo Dedés.

Fiesta Smiths – Summer Edition

Many moons ago, I wrote about this little event for the first ever Setlist. Funnily enough, the event hasn’t changed much, so I will repost my last description, with ever-so-slight alterations (hey man, there are only so many Smiths-based puns a girl can make):

Was/is Morrissey the only man who understands you?  Hopefully the past tense, otherwise you’re an insufferable person. In any case, you can soak in all things Moz, Johnny Marr, and the rest of the boys this Saturday at Club V. The party’s summer edition will feature “Moz-friendly” DJ sets by Danny Lee and Juan Romero, vegan food (Meat is Murder, duh), and a live performance by Smiths Tribute Band “Boyfriends In A Coma.” I know, I know, it’s serious. See you there — I’ll be the one cry-dancing to Hand in Glove in the corner.
