With the Copa Libertadores tournament underway, all eyes are focused on how well the Argentine teams are doing after time away from the field. While River managed to come out on top against Independiente Medellín yesterday, San Lorenzo failed to come back from a rocky start in the competition and lost the other game of the night against Brazilian team Atlético Paranaense 1-0. Even though the team from Boedo still has four games left in its group, its chances of making it to the round of 16 are already quite slim.

Atlético Paranaense scored the first and only goal of the night four minutes into the game. Argentine Luis “Lucho” González lost his marker and connected a crossed ball in San Lorenzo’s box, giving his team the upper hand right away.

The Argentine team struggled throughout the rest of the game, but had the chance to even the score with a penalty kick in the 75th minute. However, striker Nicolás Blandi missed the goal, crushing the team’s last hope of tying the game, let alone making a comeback. They will have to step up their game if they want to stay alive in the competition. And quick.
