On February 14, 2018 — Valentine’s Day next year — Norwegian Airlines will break into the Argentine market and offer low-cost flights from Buenos Aires to London.

Starting at £598, Norwegian’s least expensive package will be about 58 percent cheaper than the only round trip flights currently offered on this route, operated by British Airways, whose prices start at £944 between February 14th and 21st, 2018.

Flights from BA’s Ezeiza airport to London’s Gatwick will start at four times a week, flown by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. According to Norwegian Airlines CEO Bjørn Kjos, this new route is part of a long-term plan to expand less expensive transatlantic flights to secondary airports, which included the US and Asia earlier this year.

In order for Norwegian Airlines to open this route, they had to announce their commercial plans at a public hearing in April and have them approved by the Argentine government. In pushing for a more open air market since his inauguration, President Mauricio Macri encourages business and tourism opportunities in Argentina from an increasing number of countries.
