Today at 7 pm, one of the most famous soccer players in the world, Lionel Messi, will marry his long-time partner Antonela Roccuzzo at the Hotel City Center and Casino in Rosario with a private party of 260 guests.
The FC Barcelona player has known Roccuzzo since childhood, a fellow native from his hometown of Rosario, Santa Fe. Roccuzzo is the cousin of Messi’s best friend, Lucas Scaglia. Together, Messi and Roccuzzo have two boys, Mateo and Thiago.
The Hotel City Center is regarded one of the most prestigious venues in Argentina, located on Agenda Batlle and Ordoñez and Boulevard Oroño. The extravagant venue has over 250 rooms and an enormous Convention Center.
Though the guest list includes 22 Barcelona players and their partners, the wedding is exclusive to close family and friends: none of the club coaching staff are invited nor its current or past leaders. Other noticeable absences from the list comprise Argentine President Mauricio Macri, manager of Argetina’s national team Jorge Sampaoli, and governor of Santa Fe Miguel Lifschitz. Additionally, though most of the Barcelona players invited will attend, two cannot make it: Ronaldinho has to play in a match and Iniesta must take care of his newborn son, respectively.
Other guests invited include the pop singer Shakira, wife of fellow Barcelona player Gerard Piqué; Sergio Kun Aguero, Ángel Di María, and Ezequal Lavezzi, soccer players for both the Argentina national team and others abroad; Cesc Fabregas of the Spain national team; and 155 top journalists.
In 2001, Messi relocated from his hometown in Rosario to Barcelona, where he soon developed his astronomical talent with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) as a boy. Messi has been Barcelona’s highest-paid player since 2008 and the greatest that Argentina has produced since Diego Maradona.
At the wedding, Roccuzzo will wear a dress by the Spanish designer Rosa Clará, who has designed for Eva Longoria. Messi will complement with an Armani suit. His mother, Celia Cuccittini, and sister, Sol Messi, will both wear Claudio Cosano.
For wedding gifts, Messi requested that his guests donate to his children’s charity, the Leo Messi Foundation.
