On the hunt for Saturday evening plans? Look no further as your music fix has arrived. This week in the form of jazz vocalist, José James. This New York based talent provides  a modern day jazz sound that lays at the back of much of today’s hip-hop and R&B. Not only this but James has worked with some of the best in the business in the house scene. Notably, Detroit’s Kenny Dixon Jr. a.k.a Moodymann.

His debut album, “The Dreamer” arrived in 2008 with his sophomore album, “For All We Know” surfacing two years later. This album, a collaborative effort with Belgian jazz star, Jef Neve won the L’Academie du Jazz Grand Prix. Signing to the prestigious Blue Note Records label in 2012, James has gone on to release four more albums. The second of which paid tribute to jazz queen, Billie Holiday in 2015 and was released to celebrate her centenary.

“He is jazz. He doesn’t have to walk around proving it. And very naturally he’s a child of hip-hop and R&B. He’s just breathing” according to Grammy award winning pianist and producer, Robert Glasper.

So what can you expect to see at the show? A blending of musical styles, dashes of J Dilla-esq hip-hop beats, splashes of relaxed jazz, a sprinkle on the electronic spectrum and plenty more in store. This will be one of the best gigs of the year, don’t miss out.
