On his first day at the World Economic Forum held at the alpine town of Davos, in Switzerland, President Mauricio Macri held a round of meetings with business and opinion leaders for over nine hours.
Here is a list with all the heads of state the President has met with so far since his arrival and the issues that they discussed.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel: The meeting was not originally included in the official schedule, and was set shortly after the beginning of the forum. In a conversation that lasted 15 minutes, Macri said that “investors had waited until the [last October] midterm elections (to take action) and once the Cambiemos coalition pulled a strong victory, that conveyed peace of mind to them.”
The Casa Rosada’s website also informed that both leaders “analyzed the progress of the negotiations between the Mercosur and the European Union, aimed at reaching a trade agreement between the trading blocs.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: No official information About issues discussed in meeting has been released.
Dutch Primer Minister Mark Rutte. In the context of the meeting, Macri announced that the Río Negro Province-owned company Invap will design and build a multi-functional nuclear reactor, which is suitable for mainly producing medical isotopes and for conducting nuclear technology research in the city of Petten, in the Netherlands. Invap’s headquarters are located in the city of Bariloche. The company mostly develops projects in the aerospace, nuclear energy, communications and defense industries, and if the name sounds familiar it is because it was the company tasked with building the Arsat communication satellites.
The President also met with Swiss President Alain Berset and the following business leaders: Bill Gates (Microsoft CEO) Sheryl Sandberg (Facebook COO); James Quincey (Coca Cola CEO); David MacLennan (Cargill CEO); Patrick Pouyanné (Total CEO); Joe Kaeser (Siemens CEO); Authorities of Temasek International; Inga Beale (Lloyd’s CEO).
