Debate on abortion reform finally kicked off yesterda in the Lower House of Congress, starting a process of weeks of committee meeting to hear testimony from voices for and against decriminalization.

While abortion has been debated before by the Lower House, bills calling for reform have not made it a vote on the floor. This time a vote has been promised and lawmakers given the freedom to vote their consciences. Before that, and while pro-abortion activists shore up the necessary votes behind the consensus bill, a plenary of committees has committed to hearing from points of view across the spectrum.

Below, some of the best shots from yesterday’s debate inside Congress and the rallies outside from both camps.
