One of the best goals from this past weekend’s fixtures came from the depths of the Argentina’s Primera C league. The goalscorer? Gonzalo Acevedo of Sportivo Barracas. What made Acevedo’s goal so brilliant is the fact that he’s a goalkeeper. That, and it was struck from all of 85 yards.

Well, brilliant or lucky? Either way you look at it, it was pretty spectacular. Check out the goal in the video below.

The opposition goalkeeper, Lucas Di Grazia of Deportivo Merlo, blamed his mistake for the goal on an injury. In fact, a minute after the goal Di Grazia was substituted. Genuine injury or elaborate cover up for a pretty embarrassing goal? I’d like to think the latter.

So just how good was Gonzalo the goalie’s golazo? We’ve seen some pretty spectacular goals from ‘keepers in the past, most of which came from the boot of the ridiculous Brazilian ‘keeper Rogerio Ceni who incredibly scored 127 career goals. Acevedo’s goal reminds me more, however, of the outrageous long-range efforts of Tim Howard and Paul Robinson in the English Premier League in recent years – huge clearance, huge bounce, huge embarrassment for opposition ‘keeper and huge celebrations at the other end of the pitch.

And remarkably the Argentine ‘keeper’s goal isn’t even the best goal from a goalie this week. Don’t believe me, then check out this little slice of magic from Oscarine Masuluke in the South African league…
