Spring is finally among us, so this is a great opportunity to get cultured this Saturday with the Philharmonic, dog! Forget all that Sunday-depression due to next day elections and enjoy high quality music, for free!

The Buenos Aires Philharmonic will be performing at  Usina del Arte, (Caffarena 1, esquina Av. Don Pedro de Mendoza in La Boca), this coming Saturday at 8pm. I know that everything usually starts at least 30 minutes late in this city, but these events tend to be right on time. Insider tip: be punctual to the free world class concert.

Conducted by maestro Enrique Arturo Diemecke, the philharmonic will interpret a selection from Suites 1 and 2 of the “Romeo and Juliet” ballet by Ucranian composer Sergei Prokofiev.

Romeo and Juliet is one of the most celebrated and widely known operas by Prokoiev, appearing in several American and British Tv shows, like The Simpsons and Doctor Who, and films like Lawrence Anyways (directed by the celebrated young Canadian cinematic rockstar Xavier Dolan).

Each person is allowed to get up to two tickets downtown on Friday from 10am to 8pm at the Colón Theater, Tucumán 1171. It also makes for a great excuse to take a tour inside. It’s beyond worth it. The remaining tickets will be available the day of the concert – Saturday the 24th at Usina del Arte from 5pm onward. They might sell out but at least you have a little wiggle room.

The Buenos Aires’ Philarmonic is one of the most important orchestras in both Argentina and Latin America and was awardedthe Premios Konex de Platino award for best orchestra of the last two decades in 1999 and 2009.

In summary this is a no-brainer.  One of the best philharmonics in the world is giving a free concert in an incredible space – La Usina . What else do you want? Ok, maybe free pizza could be great, but nobody is perfect. Take it or leave it.
