Buenos Aires has been spoilt for choice in terms of open air cinema recently. The BA Plan have a Grand Opening of their Cinema Night lined up, and the brand new Crepas Cinema Club has already hosted many a packed out evening.
Last night, another arrived in Palermo – but you may just have seen it before. Drive in Movie Nights in the Rosedale describes itself as a classic of porteño summers, and will run every Thursday to Sunday at 8:30pm throughout February. Run by the City Government, rather than Palermo’s resident hipsters, they’ve given us this one for free.
They kicked off last night with ‘Julieta’, Almodóvar’s latest offering, which boasted a crowd of 4500 people. The planned line up features a number of Argentine as well as International films, all shown in Spanish, including ‘Existing Without You’, a 2016 documentary following the life of Argentina’s own rock God Charly Garcia. You may want to check the line up before thinking you’re sorted for date night – as a few of the movies are intended specifically for kids.
For those wanting more of a retro drive-in movie experience, there is space for 300 cars, from which you can tune into the movies’ sound via the cars radio – FM 107.3, if you’re interested. But no fear for the car-less, there will be plenty of chairs and cushions in the park too. There will also be food trucks, and doesn’t everyone love a good food truck…
