Chan Marshall, better known as ‘Cat Power‘ is an American indie rock icon who will be gracing the stage at Niceto Club next Thursday on the 23rd of February. No stranger to Buenos Aires, this is the 42 year-old singer songwriter’s fifth visit, having stopped over in 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2013.

The power lies in Marshall’s scaled-back performance, singing with just a guitar and a piano as her accompaniment, the intimacy of her lyrics, many of them based on her life stories, can truly be felt. Her often visible nervousness and insecurity are moving, and it is this genuine vulnerability that makes her shows real.

The set list includes tracks from her upcoming album which is based on her admiration for rock legend Bo Didley, as well as life as a single mother and raising her one year-old son.

The new album follows on from the highly successful Sun released in 2012 which reached the Billboard Top 10 charts. Centered around her then recent break-up with actor Giovanni Ribisi, Sun is full of those eclectic 90s vibes, and is the album that made many people fall in love with her.

Here’s a preview of what to expect.
