Juegos Bonaerenses,” Buenos Aires Province’s answer to the Olympics, has been drawing in impressive crowds since 1992 and could well draw even more people in with this latest move.

While the latest edition has already kicked off at the individual district level, the thing everyone’s talking about is the addition of eSports among the 64 competitive categories of the event — thanks to the collaboration between the Province’s Subsecretary of Sports and the Electronic Sports and Videogames Association in Argentina (DEVA eSports). Both teenagers and adults will be able to show off their skills with games like League of Legends (LoL) and FIFA 17. The highly popular videogames will be available for PC and PlayStation 3 and 4, respectively.

The Ministry of Social Development from the Buenos Aires Province, Santiago López Medrano, stated that “eSports are a worldwide trend” and highlighted they “are an entertainment and at the same, build training, mental strength and concentration, elements that can be considered as part of sports.” López Medrano added it’s “an incusive activity, given it doesn’t exclude by age nor sex, and can also be played by handicapped people.”

Sign up for this and the other 64 events is open from now until April 24th. Even though the first two rounds are remote, the final show down will take place on-site at Mar del Plata.
