The Cardiac Foundation of Argentina (FCA) launched the illumination project, which will light up the Obelisco in red from sunrise to sunset, in hopes of raising awareness for cardiac conditions and problems within Argentina.

The FCA is a public entity, made of a wide range of heart specialists. While they are connected internationally to the World Heart Federation and the Interamerican Heart Foundation, their work in Argentina falls into three main categories: research, outreach, and education.

While the red lights may be a sign of solidarity for those already suffering from heart problems, it can also serve as a preventative reminder to check in with yourself and lifestyle. Their top three tips for taking care of your cardiac system now?

  1. Eat Healthily
  2. Be Active
  3. Don’t Smoke

Provided that 34 percent of deaths in Argentina are from cardiac related issues, increased awareness and preventative measures make sense. While you may already be at risk due to factors outside your control, like your age and family history, there are many more factors you can influence, like controlling diabetes, stress, and weight.

Regardless, pay attention to your body, and look for warning signs. They’re different between men and women, so check out these resources to know what to look for.
