Despite the downpour, thousands of women took to the streets of downtown Buenos Aires clutching umbrellas and hand-painted signs to make their way from the Obelisk to Plaza de Mayo.
Even if it gets the bulk of the coverage, Buenos Aires was far from the only place that saw protests as men and women joined demonstrations in 21 other cities throughout the country.

During the protests, women called for an end to all kinds of violence against — and harassment of — women, attacking what is often identified as the root of such crimes: “machismo.”
Signs read (L to R): “I want to work without being harassed”; ‘Sorry to bother you but we are being murdered”; “One day I will no longer be afraid to walk down the street. I will no longer be afraid of dying because of your machismo”; “I want to choose the hands that touch me” (Photo via Télam).
