The crème de la crème of Argentine rugby will be up against the Chiefs hailing from Hamilton in what is sure to be a thrilling encounter at Vélez’s José Amalfitini stadium. Los Jaguares are essentially the Pumas, the Argentine first XV, who finished 4th at last year’s Rugby World Cup.
To be in with a chance of getting your hands on one of the 500 available free tickets, you just have to meet some fairly simple criteria:
- Be a foreign national
- Be doing anything here (working, studying or visiting)
- Want free rugby tickets
I said it was simple, didn’t I?
The Super Rugby tournament is quite possibly the biggest league in the world, if you perhaps ignore the moneyed French Top 14, and this is the first time it’s included sides from outside the traditional South Africa, Australia and New Zealand tournament in an all-new 18 team format. It’s not just Argentina who’ve had a call up either, with a team from Japan also included as well for a truly intercontinental affair.
Thus far for Los Jaguares it’s been a mixed bag with a superb 34-33 win on its debut against the Cheetahs followed by a narrow 19-15 defeat to the Sharks, both of South Africa.
The match this Saturday in Buenos Aires is only one of seven on home soil this campaign, so you’d be a fool to miss out on a chance to see the likes of All-Blacks World Cup winner Aaron Cruden and Japan captain Michael Leitch, who led his side to *that* incredible win over South Africa at the 2015 World Cup in England.
To get your hands on a ticket all you have to do is register online on the city tourism board’s website, then turn up at la Plaza Floralis Genérica (av. Figueroa Alcorta y Austria) on Saturday at 2pm. The first 240 people will get tickets and transportation to the stadium in a tourist bus, 260 tickets will also be available but transport won’t.
Not only is there fantastic rugby on offer, but you’ll also have access to the stadium’s Fan Zone where live bands and DJs will be playing, alongside food trucks and all the merchandise you could ever want. Kickoff is at 6:30pm.
Once again, I reiterate, do not miss out!
