The Néstor Astarita quartet will be paying homage to the late musical legends of Astor Piazzolla and Miles Davis from 9:30 PM onwards on Wednesday. A night dedicated to one of these heroes would be satisfying enough, but together? A simple must-go.
Néstor Astarita, the leader of this jazzy bunch is quite the renowned name in Argentine jazz, Néstor has been batting about the scene for the best part of fifty years, so quite rightfully knows his stuff. Not to mention jetting off on numerous international tours from 1974, his most recent being in 2014 to France, Spain and Italy. This well seasoned professional backed by his attentive team are bound to do justice to Astor and Miles.
A revolutionary figure in Argentine music, Piazzolla is a well-known household name throughout the country, and has notable recognition across the world. The New York Times described him as “the world’s foremost composer of tango music”. Born in 1921 in Mar De Plata, his family relocated to New York until his return to Argentina for good in 1936. Piazzolla hit the music scene with panache the plenty, his award-winning masterful compositions and unprecedented contemporary tweaks (including jazz) to the classic tango form continue to stand alone in their brilliance. If seeking a truly captivating taste of the Argentine sound, Astor is your man.
One of the most acclaimed musicians of the 20th Century, Miles Davis was undoubtedly a jazz legend. The Illinois raised trumpet player had a professional career spanning more than 50 years and created some of the most critically acclaimed music of the century. An example? His 1959 album “Kind of Blue” was the best selling jazz album of all time and ranked number twelve in the 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone magazine. This is but the tip of the iceberg for his universally acknowledged musical brilliance and any night dedicated to reinterpreting his genius work is not one to miss.
