Last month the Argentine U-20 team barely qualified to make the category’s World Cup, which will take place in Korea this year. The U-17 category is now trying to follow in their steps within their own category’s South American Qualifiers, but they are facing an uphill battle.
After this last game, the Argentine team needs to be more focused than ever. They not only need to win this upcoming game, but they also have to pay attention to the margin by which they win if they hope to qualify for the World Cup in India later this year. With one fixture to go, Argentina is 4th in a group of five teams, and only the first three make it to the hexagonal.
Venezuela and Brazil have already qualified. Peru, on the other end, has been eliminated and ripped away from any hope of making it to India. That means that Paraguay and Argentina, the remaining teams in the group, have to fight for the third, last slot.
Unfortunately, Argentina is at the disadvantage and doesn’t have much control over their football fate.
These are the only possible ways for Argentina to qualify:
- Peru beats Paraguay, and Argentina beats Brazil.
- Peru ties against Paraguay 0-0, and Argentina beats Brazil.
- Peru ties against Paraguay 1-1, and Argentina beats Brazil by two or more goals.
The FIFA U-17 World Cup in India will take place this year from Oct. 6 to Oct. 28, where 24 teams will attempt to bring home the cup.
