Tens of thousands of teachers took to marching today in the City of Buenos Aires along with other cities throughout the country in what was the first of a two-day nationwide strike. They are protesting what they consider to be an insufficient salary increase offer from provincial administrations along with pushing back after the federal government’s refusal to hold salary negotiations at a national level instead of opting to have each province negotiate on their own with unions.

Hoards of teachers, headed by the leaders of their main unions, began their route a few minutes prior to 11 AM from the intersection of Callao and Rivadavia to the national Ministry of Education, led by Esteban Bullrich. “The strike is massive in the entire country,” said Roberto Baradel, leader of the Ctera union’s Buenos Aires Province branch.
