Buenos Aires wants a shot at the 2023 World Expo, an event aimed at providing a platform for discussions on “finding solutions to universal challenges of our time, such as urbanism (Expo Shanghai 2010) or nutrition (Expo Milan 2015).”

In an effort to strengthen Argentina’s chances of bringing it to South America, the Ministry of Media and Public Content have released the following video:

From the start, the video draws attention to the diversity among both the people of Argentina and its natural landscapes. The narrator calls Argentina a country “defined by diversity.” He also touches on Argentina’s strong connections to the rest of the world, saying, “No matter where you are from, you surely have someone close living in Argentina.”

Each city making a bid to host the expo presents a unique theme. When President Mauricio Macri announced Buenos Aires’ bid last December, he declared that the proposed theme would be “Science, Innovation, Art and Creativity for the Human Development.”

Competing alongside Buenos Aires are Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, whose proposed theme is “Wellness and Well Being for All: Healthy People, Healthy Planet,” and Lódz, Poland, whose proposition comes a year earlier in 2022, titled, “City Re:Invented.”

The official website for Argentina’s World Expo bid lists many reasons why Buenos Aires should host the event. Aside from being the first BIE International Expo in Latin America, the city receives more than 10 million tourists annually, and has two international airports that welcome more than 700 international flights per week. Already renowned for its cosmopolitan atmosphere, Buenos Aires hopes this video best demonstrates its wealth of culture as it invites the world in 2023 to share in its celebration of ideas.
