Macri and Trump’s meeting today in the White House has, surprisingly, yielded rather immediate results for Argentina. In a joint statement, the pair announced Argentina will be the tenth country to join the United States Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) program, Global Entry, which aims to streamline the entry process for “Reliable Passengers” in US airports. On the US end, the program is meant to redirect custom’s efforts to higher risk travelers, as well as encourage tourism throughout the US.

Starting this May, Argentines who hold a business or tourism Visa to the US can apply to be a “Reliable Passenger” by following these steps (Stay tuned for a mobile application program, available through the Argentine branch of the US Chamber of Commerce):

  1. Create an account on the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) homepage.
  2. Complete the application form and US $100 payment.
  3. After acceptance, complete an interview at one of the international Global Entry offices.
  4. Bring both your passport and another form of identification with you to the interview, like a driver’s license.

US $100 is a lot upfront, but the anticipated benefits are tempting. No more waiting in customs lines (an electronic scanner will ID your passport and visa), no more customs forms and guaranteed TSA pre-check (which means shorter security lines). Perhaps the best news yet? These benefits will become available with all the participating countries, including Columbia, Panama and the United Kingdom, to name a few.
