Cabinet Chief Marcos Peña announced today that President Mauricio Macri decided to pick Fernando Oris de Roa, director of Expofrut S.A., to be Argentina’s new ambassador in the United States.

Oris de Rosa will replace former ambassador Martín Lousteau, who left his post in Washington DC earlier this year in order to pursue political career. Lousteau competed for a seat in Congress against Vamos Juntos‘ Elisa Carrió in the city of Buenos Aires last October 22.

Oris de Rosa obtained an MA in public policy from Harvard University and is known for his expertise in the agrobusiness sector. He had a brief stint in the public sector last year when he became Under Secretary of Investments in the city of Buenos Aires.

Back in the 90s he was the head of San Miguel, one of Argentina’s largest Tucumán lemons exporter, and also founded Avex S.A., a poultry farming company.

Oris de Roa has been the director of Expofrut S.A. since 2011, in the province of Río Negro, a company that produces and exports pears and apples.
