The number of foreign tourists arriving in Argentina has been declining lately and that has led some City of Buenos Aires lawmakers to say that what Argentina’s capital needs is more advertising. A new draft bill could start to make that a reality by setting up an exchange with other cities.

Legislators Natalia Fidel and Inés Gorbea, both of the ECO party, are sponsoring the bill. “Buenos Aires is the cultural capital of Latin America. However it isn’t even in the four most visited cities in the region” said Fidel.

The exchange would not involve any cash, but would rather involve an exchange by which Buenos Aires would advertise certain cities if they also agree to advertise Buenos Aires. The cities involved must be of a similar caliber with a minimum population of 100,000 citizens and the advertising must be of an equivalent quality, quantity, location and level of exposure established by the City of Buenos Aires.
